Description
Australopithecus pelvis. Fossilised pelvis of an Australopithecus sp. primate, thought to be an ancestor of humans. Australopithecines were bipedal hominids that lived between about 3.5 and 1 million years ago. They ranged throughout much of Africa. There were several species of Australopithecus, including the gracile, omnivorous A. afarensis and A. africanus, and the robust, predominantly herbivorous A. boisei and A. robustus.
