Description
Human pelvis. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of bones of a normal adult pelvis, seen in axial view. At lower centre, bones of the lower vertebra form the sacrum and coccyx of the pelvis. These are attached to two curved innominate or hip (ilium) bones seen at right and at left. The hip bones form an articulation with the femur (thigh) bones of each leg (not visible). At above centre, regions of the intestine (yellow, orange) are visible in the abdomen. The pelvis supports and protects internal organs and tissues of the abdomen, and provides a site for the attachment of muscles of the trunk and lower limbs.
