Description
This is a dangerous reptile IN THE WILD...I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FOR YOU TO ATTEMPT...With its rattle in the air and in a striking position this Mohave Green Rattlesnake means business. The Mohave Green Rattlesnake is the most aggressive and poisonous of all the Rattlesnakes of North America. It has a whole extra set of neurotoxins that pretty much can cause one to die if bitten. Quick treatment with anti-venom is necessary for this snake's bite which may not be as necessary with the regular prairie rattlesnakes. Best not to take too many chances with either snake as any bit should be treated by professionals. I was thrilled to have an opportunity to see and photograph this snake in the wild near the Kelso Dunes in California, USA.

This is an impressive capture but I am curious, this does not appear to be photographed using a long lease, so, please tell us, just how far you were and how you got this . . . and the angle of this shot tells me that you could not have been standing because your lens is at ground level . . . please reveal your secret here. And were you out and about looking for him or was this just a happy accident . . .
Bob Christopher replied:
Hi David...Thank you very much for your interest in my image. I used an 80-200mm Nikon lens...Handheld...I had to crouch down to get the best angle...This Mohave Green wasn’t happy with me...Google the statistics on this snake to fully appreciate his potency. At the time I knew the Mohave Greens inhabited the area so I was hoping to get a chance to photograph one. I photographed three different Mohave Greens and one Sidewinder as well as a desert tortoise within 2 days...Thanks again for your interest...Cheers Bob

You are much braver than I! Unfortunately, this one is older (the buttons indicate that he is at least 9 years old - those that is not always the case). However, he truly is a big one and knows how to release much venom in a single blow and take off quickly. Excellent capture, though dangerous. This position is one of total aggression.....great capture! FLP. PS....I grew up in the country with the diamond back rattlesnakes. We could kill up to 10 a year.....very very aggressive when they are hot and thirsty!
Bob Christopher replied:
