Description
This large painting depicts a busy working day in the city of London, UK, during sunny autumn weather. The area is known as 'Bank' and is the traditional heartland of the financial district. In the centre and dominating the composition is the (ex) Royal Stock Exchange, built in 1840's, but since the start of the 21st century has been occupied by restaurants, shops and offices. A pediment sculptured frieze by Richard Westmacott dominates the building while a statue of the Duke of Wellington on horseback stands in the forecourt. The Bank of England is on the extreme left. In the background can be seen the 'Natwest Tower (42)', the 'Scalpel', the Leadenhall building, and under construction 'Twenty Two' Bishopsgate.
'Threadneedle' street is on the left hand side and 'Cornhill' is the street on the opposite side, obscured by the red London bus, one of 5 in the picture.
The painting is done in oils on a canvas sized at 60” x 40” approx, and was completed in late December 2018.
